Hi Kris, yes, Vicky did get in touch and was very helpful, I have the vision document now. I will get in touch with you, if that is OK, to ask any questions, but it all looks very comprehensive and I am using the public library as my alternative library so I don't need as much info as for my main library - I am using school for that. Thanks for your help. Trish

Hi! Vicki said that you had phoned her to get a copy of the Vision document. If you want any more information about our planning process I'm more than happy to help.

Hi,

It's Kris from Rodney Libraries here. Thanks for the info re Meredith's presentation. I'll have to wait until I get home to watch it though - internet speed at work can be variable. Your research project sounds very interesting - good luck!

Profile Information

Institution
Orewa College
I work in the Orewa College library two days a week and I am also completing my BA degree in Information and Library Studies and the Humanities. My last paper is a research paper and I am looking at which Library 2.0 services are being used to attract teenagers to use their library's services and whether they are effective. I had explored the Ning.com website but didn't discover this Ning, luckily my supervisor found it and put me in touch.
It is difficult in a school library to really do much, as yet, with web 2.0. School administrators tend to block all social networking sites, children will have their internet access blocked if they try to go onto Bebo, Facebook, etc. We have started an internal library blog, available via our library homepage, but haven't enabled comments. It is fairly new territory for us and there is not too much info out there about other peoples experiences. I am hoping that my research will help me to know how to move forward with web 2.0 / library 2.0 tools in our library. I am very aware that there are issues for schools that are probably not quite so relevant for other types of libraries. But then every library probably has its own special set of difficulties.

Meredith Farkas speaking to Building Academic Library 2.0

This is a video of a keynote address Meredith Farkas gave to a conference at UC Berkeley. It is 70 minutes long but skip the first 13 or so minutes as it is just introductions. The link is at: Building Academic Library 2.0
In it she discusses a definition of library 2.0 and then gives some great tips for using web 2.0 in libraries. There are some really good ideas that are practical and doable.
